About the Author
David Colander has been the Christian A. Johnson Distinguished Professor of Economics at Middlebury College, Middlebury, Vermont since 1982. He previously taught at Columbia University, Vassar College, and the University of Miami. Professor Colander has authored, co-authored, or edited more than 35 books and 100 articles on a wide range of topics. His books have been, or are being, translated into a number of different languages, including Chinese, Bulgarian, Polish, Italian, and Spanish. He is a former President of both the Eastern Economic Association and History of Economics Society and is, or has been, on the editorial boards of the Journal of the History of Economic Thought, Journal of Economic Methodology, Eastern Economic Journal, Journal of Economic Education, The Journal of Socioeconomics, and Journal of Economic Perspectives. He has also been a consultant to Time-Life Films, the U.S. Congress, a Brookings Policy Fellow, and a Visiting Scholar at Nuffield College, Oxford. In 2001 2002 he was the Kelly Professor of Distinguished Teaching at Princeton University.

Dapper Carter's Messy Life Gets Messier

Dapper Carter is back. His escapades are even more wild this time around. A few old friends return to help him through the foolishness that is his love life. The ladies still love him and he loves them back. Dr. Pepper, his no nonsense therapist not the beverage, gives him an assignment that gives the reader a better understanding of why Dapper behaves the way he does.

Dapper manages to get himself into some hilarious situations. I found myself giggling out loud at times. This was a good follow up to the 8 Rules of Dating. I'm anticipating Alan Mitchell's next novel.

A Book that Quenches a Reader's Thirst

When I read "Dapper Carter's 8 Rules of Dating", I enjoyed it to the fullest. Well-written and timely, I thought that was the last I would read about him. Nope. Lo and behold, "Dapper Carter's 5 Fatale Flaws" hit my email. I really couldn't stop reading this follow-up. Let me preface it this way: I'm the same age as Dapper, and the same astrological sign. Our lives are similar in some respects. However, what really caught me in this book was the characterization. We, the readers, learn more about Dapper in this sequel. More about his insecurities, his interactions with people, his life plans, etc. Still slick with his mouth, in many ways, Dapper leaves us with some gems.
In this book, we find Dapper post-marriage and on the brink of a milestone birthday. He has to do some vital introspection and decide what to do with the information. He enlists help with this task. A professional helps him dig deeper into his psyche, yet his life choices are the true harbingers of his personal truth.
I found the language of this book to be perfect. Not so "urban" that it would turn a reader off and not so high-brow that is was trying too hard. It found a middle ground that felt authentic. Friends of mine speak like this, as do yours. All the characters are described well and are believable. None seem to be out of their elements. You can envision these people in your everyday life. They're all relatable. Dapper's best friends are still around and have gone through some changes of their own.
Alan Mitchell has done it again. A very comical and witty book. Minus a few editorial issues, I give this book a 4 out of 5. The excerpt of the next book is in the back and I can't wait to read that.

Dapper Carter is back with more fun and laughs in Dapper Carter's 5 Fatale Flaws by Alan Mitchell. Dapper has recovered from his recent divorce from Kennedy with his rules of dating. After mastering his 8 rules of dating, Dapper is lead into the arms of Rain Van Ness. Dapper learns that everything is not as it seems as his relationship with Rain ends.

Dapper's therapist, Dr. Pepper, gives him an assignment that prompts the 5 fatale flaws. While researching, Dapper meets a variety of women who bring out different behaviors in him. This journey of creating the 5 flaws has Dapper learning a lot about himself as a person and discovering who he is meant to be.

Dapper Carter's 5 Fatale Flaws is about a man finding himself whether good or bad. I love that readers will see a different side of Dapper Carter in this new installment. This was a funny story of the main character's self- discovery. My favorite flaw is "Sabotage" because we all are our own critic and often times we harm ourselves in doing so, which is one of Dapper's characteristics. The author does a wonderful job in placing women in Dapper's life that are very unique. I appreciated the flaws being more solid than the corny rules in the previous book. This was an entertaining book with a hint of drama which held my interest. I recommend Dapper Carter's 5 Fatale Flaws to others.

I thought this was a really good book. I loved the relationship between Rain and Dakota but I must say at times Rain seemed kind of "special". For example why didn't she comprehend that her and Dakota were in a relationship REALLY! She should have told Stacy right there in the club back up my man is here. I really wish this was a stand alone book but that doesn't seem to be the norm now a days so I guess I will just have to wait to see what happens in the next 20 intallments (sarcasm).

Yeeesssss this book is amazing

A'Zayler knows how to work that pen. This book was outstanding. It flowed effortlessly. The bond that these sister's share is admirable. Dakota and Rain are so cute together. They definitely compliment each other beautifully. I sure hope Stacy and his delusional self do not mess that relationship up. I don't understand why Rain didn't pump his brakes from the door. That man is just a train wreck. I hope Dakota sees through his foolishness. Summer is just what the doctor ordered for Jacorey I hope he realizes that before she moves on to someone who is willing to really put in the effort for a relationship. Please don't make us wait too long for the next one. Great job once again.

I loved me some Goddess Rain and Dakota Love! They were one of my favorite couples I've ever read about. Their love was pure and genuine. Love wasn't a man who ran through woman and cheated. Rain wasn't a woman who was ghetto and ratchet who used men for a come up. I was happy Jacorey and Summer finally stopped playing and made things official. The secrets that came out in this last book was crazy. It was sad Damien felt like he had to take his own life as a means to an end. He did a lot of dirt but he should've thought about his children before he did that. I was proud of Alex for making a change and bettering himself. I was shocked about him changing his image but he seemed content with his decision. Well done A'zayler you hit the ball out of the park as usual. Can't wait to see what you have for us next!!

Lindsey surveys U.S. and Canadian child-welfare systems, from the orphanages of the 1800s to recent legislation mandating child-abuse reporting, which resulted in a skyrocketing increase in the number of reports of suspected abuse. Since then, investigations of alleged abuse have consumed virtually all the resources of the child-welfare systems, transforming them into child-protection agencies. Funding cuts have further narrowed the focus of who receives services. However, Lindsey believes that responsibility for protecting criminally assaulted children must shift to the police and courts and that the child-welfare systems must be redirected to developing policies and programs to ameliorate the plight of disadvantaged and impoverished children. The second half of the book proposes practical long-term measures to break the poverty cycle, such as modifying the federal income tax collection systems to ensure child-support payments, and the establishment of the child's future security account. Essential reading for anyone concerned with child welfare

The Welfare of Children is a stunning achievement. Lindsey examines several vital issues heretofore untouched, charting a course for the future of child welfare with remarkable clarity of vision.
In this most comprehensive and thoroughly annotated volume, Lindsey traces the transformation of child welfare into child protective services.
Lindsey explodes the many myths which have served for so long to perpetuate this transformed system. Chief among them are those most commonly held misperceptions that child welfare programs based on the "residual model" have reduced child fatalities by any measure, and that they have served to increase the welfare of children overall.
Lindsey explores in depth the critical decision-making processes involved in making the determination of whether or not to remove a child from his home. He clearly demonstrates that the field of child welfare lacks a scientific knowledge base from which to draw, and that the critical decisions involving the welfare of children and families are inherently unreliable.
Rather than offer another book replete with anecdotal "horror stories," Lindsey offers instead a scholarly work which will serve to greatly enhance the reader's understanding of the history and dynamics of child welfare, and the forces driving its transformation from child welfare into child protective services.

Lindsey offers a blueprint for a future which will better serve children. He offers a compelling argument for the criminal justice system to assume responsibility for dealing with the problem of child abuse, such that the child welfare system can return to its role of addressing the overall well-being of a greater number of children.
He makes extensive use of charts and graphs, while managing to do so in such a way as not to distract the more casual reader. His use of advanced statistical analysis is explained clearly, for the benefit of all readers. Few books can so magnificently reach out to touch such a potentially diverse audience of readers, reaching the intellect as effectively as it does the heart.
This is one of those rare volumes that no student of the child welfare system should be without. Put this book at the top of your list.

The writer slings arrows with rubber tips.

Have you ever read a book on a subject with which you have some expertise and wonder if the writer is just making things up as he goes along? This was nearly the experience in reading this book by Duncan Lindsey a UCLA professor.

The first problem is that Lindsey takes the shotgun approach to arguing his points against the existing child protective services system. Instead of centering his arguments on a few specific issues and developing his thesis, he tries to address every conceivable aspect of the child welfare system and liberally scatters his thoughts and comments without a strong basis of analysis. The result is a loose confederation of ideas none of which with a firm foundation for acceptance.

The second problem is that Lindsey attempts to address issues for which he does not seem to have actual knowledge. His attack on the legal basis of the child protective system, for being a civil model rather than a criminal model, is amateurish (at best). His understanding of the social workers management of the case lacks first hand understanding of the field. I wanted to give some examples to explain my points, but it would result in a much longer review than what I prefer. It must suffice to say that I believe the professor's expertise is apparently more academic and esoteric than real life.

A third problem is Lindsey's contradicting himself in various parts of his book. For example, he spends time discussing how children's deaths is increasing, but in another chapter argues that death is but a small area of concern for protecting children. He titles this later chapter as "Child abuse, the red herring of child welfare." Therefore, he argues that the current system is not doing enough to protect children from destructive parents, but argues that too much of the same system focuses on a problem that is a small issue in child welfare. So which is it?

It is unfortunate that the author did not sacrifice a couple of hundred pages and written a monograph on one of his points. Then he could have provided a document worth quoting and considering. Instead, we have a lengthy diatribe absent developed charges worth remembering.

This is a must read book for all Chiropractors out there. Despite our best intentions our profession is simply not making the huge impact on our society that it could and should! Well this book will help correct this and will inevitably change the future of chiropractic. This book offers Hope with a Plan. Must Read - Not just for DC's

As an entrepreneur, I have been a big "E-Myth" and Michael Gerber fan for years. Great idea to specialize! I've found Gerber's insight and perspective on small businesses and their pitfalls to be spot on. Breaking the concept down into specifics with Dr. Sovinsky as a chiropractor magnifies the relevance for ALL chiropractors. Dr. Sovinsky clearly has an understanding of our profession and the challenges we face as business owners trying desperately to balance having a life while running a business. I thoroughly enjoyed his message which left me inspired and extremely empowered to create the impactful business I envisioned years ago. This is a must read for any chiropractor or student. It's clear to see that being an outstanding clinician isn't enough - it's essential to master sound business systems that simplify customer/client contact and accessibility.

Essential for every Chiropractor

A brilliant book from two of the most brilliant minds in their respective fields. Dr. Sovinsky and Michael Gerber combine their expertise to provide a long overdue approach to creating a successful chiropractic business without the hardsell and gimmicks that plague our profession. I love the authenticity, simplicity and integrity this book provides and encourages in its strategies. Most of all, I really love the fact that creating a great practice doesn't mean giving up a life. In fact, a great life and business are really inseparable using the E-Myth approach.

Congratulations to Dr. Sovinsky and Mr. Gerber for creating a book that will not only help Chiropractors, but will surely change the Chiropractic profession!
